(LAWRENCE ATHLETICS) APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University women’s basketball team pulled away early Thursday and rolled to an 83-40 nonconference victory over Alverno College at Alexander Gymnasium.
Sixteen Lawrence players scored in the victory, and the Vikings forced 19 Alverno turnovers, including 14 in the first half, while holding the Inferno to 28.8 percent shooting for the game.
Lawrence (8-4) had two players, Maggie Culver and Mallory Meyer, score in double figures. Culver finished with a game-high 15 points and grabbed four rebounds, and Meyer added 11 points and three boards.
Tanner Bost and Lydia Lueck added seven points apiece for the Vikings, and Bost grabbed four rebounds. Bailey Griffis, Taylor Svoboda and Josie Chose had six points apiece for Lawrence, and Griffis hit career and team highs with six rebounds. Josie Eager came off the bench to pace the Vikings with five assists, and Tahlia Moe picked up four assists.
Lawrence ended the first quarter on a 12-4 burst and led 17-9 heading to the second. Alverno closed to 24-14, but Lawrence stretched that advantage to 37-21 at halftime.
The Vikings broke the game open to start the third quarter and quickly built a 46-23 lead after Culver hit a 3-pointer and followed with a layup. The Vikings closed the third quarter with a 3-pointer from Eager and a Svoboda fastbreak layup for a 62-32 lead. Lawrence would lead by as many as 45 points in the fourth quarter.
Shiauna Nixon-Boyd led Alverno (3-8) with 14 points, and Arlaysia Braggs had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
