MADISON, WI (WTAQ-METRO) – Madison’s police chief says it is among his top priorities to find the motive behind Monday’s deadly shooting at the Abundant Life School. But Chief Shon Barnes yesterday said he didn’t have anything new on the motive yet.
He said it will likely be a combination of things that led 15-year-old Natalie ‘Samantha’ Rupnow to bring a gun to school, and open fire.
The chief once again declined to talk about the manifesto attributed to Rupnow that talks about killing people, and her hatred for all manner of others. Barnes did ask for anyone who knew Rupnow, either in-person or online, to please come forward and share with investigators what they know.
Meanwhile, Madison’s mayor angrily told reporters it’s none of their business who died in Monday’s school shooting.
Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway lashed out at reporters at a news conference yesterday. She said people asking questions about the shooting should show some ‘human decency and respect.’
Rhodes-Conway was angry after being questioned about the lack of answers about the incident. The mayor had nothing to add to the specifics about the shooting the killed a teacher and a student, and wounded six others.
Conway said her first priority is to ‘respect’ the ‘privacy and timeline’ of the families who lost someone in the shooting.
