(WNFL/LEARFIELD) – The Green Bay Packers play their second consecutive Thursday night game this week when they travel to Detroit to face the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur on Sunday talked about facing a Detroit defense that is dealing with a number of injuries.
LaFleur also spoke about why the Packers run defense has been so good the last few weeks.
As for Sunday’s practice, the Packers kept things a bit lighter to keep the players fresher for Thursday.
Detroit roster moves: The Lions have placed rookie defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo on injured reserve and are reportedly signing former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams.
Packers roster moves: The Green Bay Packers have signed linebacker Michael Barrett and guard Marquis Hayes to the practice squad and released wide receiver Malik Knowles from the practice squad. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Saturday.
Barrett (5-11, 232), a rookie out of the University of Michigan, was originally selected by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round (No. 240 overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft. He was traded to the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 22 and spent time on the practice squads of the Seahawks and Cleveland Browns this season. Barrett played in 62 games with 35 starts for the Wolverines (2018-23), earning third-team All-Big 10 honors from the coaches in each of his last two seasons (2022-23). He will wear No. 54 for the Packers.
Hayes (6-5, 318), a second-year player out of the University of Oklahoma, was originally selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the seventh round (No. 257 overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve. Hayes was on the Cardinals practice squad in 2023 and to start this season and also spent time on the Washington Commanders’ practice squad this year.
