(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico –It was another wild and close game Friday morning for the Green Bay women’s basketball team. GB pulled out a 64-59 victory over Drake, forcing 24 Bulldogs turnovers en route to victory. Green Bay has now won six of the last eight meetings against Drake.
Natalie McNeal paced GB (4-3) with 15 points, while Cassie Schiltz added 12. Callie Genke and Jenna Guyer each tallied nine, with Genke going 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Anna Miller led all players with 16 points for Drake (2-5), coming up just short of a double-double with nine rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a very sluggish start for both squads. Abbie Aalsma made a three for the Bulldogs, extending DU’s early lead to 6-2 with 7:22 left in the opening frame. After that basket, neither team scored for over three minutes, combining to go 0-for-8 with three turnovers. Green Bay awoke from its brief slumber thanks to efforts from Maren Westin and Guyer, who scored five points in less than two minutes. GB entered the second stanza trailing 13-12 after a layup by DU’s Courtney Becker. The Phoenix held the Bulldogs to eight points in the second stanza while McNeal helped GB offensively, scoring four points down the stretch to give Green Bay a 24-21 advantage into the break.

Green Bay and Drake came out of the locker room blazing, and a Jasmine Kondrakiewicz and-one made it 29-28 with 7:07 left in the third period. Drake splashed a couple of threes before Miller added on with a pair of layups, quickly giving Drake a 41-33 lead with 4:30 left in the frame. GB outscored Drake 13-5 the rest of the stanza, tying the game at 46 after a McNeal mid-range jumper. Natalie made another jumper to give GB a 55-50 lead with 3:20 remaining in regulation. Genke got in on the action late, tallying five of her seven made free throws in the last 2:02, and the Green and White iced the game at the line for the 64-59 win.
