(BIG EAST) NEW YORK- Yadhira Anchante of the Marquette University women’s volleyball team is the BIG EAST Conference Setter of the Week for the second time in as many weeks after wins at Xavier and DePaul, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Redshirt junior middle blocker Hattie Bray was also named to the league’s weekly honor roll for the third time this season and second week in a row. Anchante’s recognition is her third setter of the week honor and sixth accolade of the year overall.
Anchante paced the league with 12.71 assists per set and led MU to a combined team hitting mark of .306. She posted 39 assists, seven digs, three kills and a block in a sweep of Xavier on Friday evening in Cincinnati.
In Sunday’s match at DePaul, Anchante had helped MU rally from an opening set loss with 50 assists, four kills and eight digs over four sets. It is her highest assist total in a four-set match this season.
Bray hit .500 (19-3-32) in the two matches and averaged 3.80 kills and 1.20 blocks per set. She had match highs of 15 kills and five blocks in Friday’s sweep of the Musketeers, while hitting .700 (15-1-20) with 19.0 total points.
The Golden Eagles head to Omaha, Nebraska over Thanksgiving week for the BIG EAST Championship Presented by JEEP at D.J. Sokol Arena. MU has received a bye into the semifinals and will play either third-seeded UConn or sixth-seeded Villanova at 5 p.m. Central time on Friday, Nov. 29 in the match opposite tournament-host Creighton.
