(GREEN BAY COMMUNICATIONS) – PROVIDENCE, R.I. –It was a battle Saturday afternoon, but the Green Bay men’s basketball team fell at Providence, 79-65. The Phoenix had a seven-point lead in the second half but struggled offensively in the game’s final 15 minutes.
The Phoenix (1-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Marcus Hall , who had 19 points and seven rebounds. A nthony Roy added 17 points and Jeremiah Johnson chipped in with a near double-double, 10 points, and nine rebounds.
Jayden Pierre led Providence with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor and 4-of-6 from three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Roy started the game on fire, scoring 13 of Green Bay’s first 14 points. Roy made three three-pointers in the game’s first seven minutes, helping GB grab a 14-13 lead with 13:16 to go in the first half. The Friars were able to battle back and eventually take a 35-25 lead with 3:31 to go. The Phoenix wouldn’t go into the half quietly however, outscoring Providence 11-1 the rest of the way to tie it at 36 all after a Hall steal and layup in the final seconds of the half.
Green Bay used that end-of-the-half momentum and started the second half on a 14-7 run that came in large part from three-straight Hall threes. The Friars immediately responded with a 12-0 of their own to take a 55-50 lead that they would never relinquish. GB got it back to within four a couple of times, but eventually fell 79-65.
