(LAWRENCE ATHLETICS) APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University men’s hockey team got off to a fast start Saturday and went on to a 4-0 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association over Lake Forest College at the Appleton Ice Center.
Lawrence (3-2-1, 2-1-1 NCHA) scored in the game’s opening minute and picked up a goal late in the opening period to ease out to a 2-0 advantage.
Will Crull scored his second goal in as many games off a pass from Carter Cloutier to give Lawrence a 1-0 lead just 57 seconds into the game. Lawrence’s Alex Hollands then scored with 1:23 left in the first period after a scramble in front of the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Vikings then killed off four penalties in the second period to keep Lake Forest at bay.
Lawrence then stretched the lead early in the third period. Jack Michels scored off an assist from PJ Noonan at the 4:11 mark of the third for a 3-0 edge. Cloutier then sealed the win with a goal at the 9:04 mark off passes from Hollands and Ethan Beaumont.
Nolan Mahaffey made 22 saves to record the shutout for Lawrence. Dylan Kruss stopped 25 shots for the Foresters (1-4-1, 0-3-1).

Ripon 41, Lawrence 0
RIPON, Wis. — The Lawrence University football team dropped a 41-0 Midwest Conference decision to Ripon College in the season finale on Saturday at Hopp Stadium.
In the renewal of Wisconsin’s oldest college football rivalry, the Vikings struggled to get its offense going and were held to just 105 yards of total offense.
Lawrence quarterback Aidan Williams was 10-of-26 passing for 61 yards and two interceptions. Lawrence star receiver Alex Lippert was limited to four catches for 19 yards.
Ripon (4-6, 4-5 MWC) scored a pair of touchdowns in each of the opening two quarters to build a 27-0 lead at the half. The Red Hawks tacked on a touchdown in the third quarter and another in the fourth.
The Lawrence defense got a stellar effort from linebacker Jon Pasquarello, who made a game-high 18 tackles, including 11 solo stops and 1.0 tackles for loss.
Ripon retains possession of the Doehling Heselton Memorial Trophy, which goes to the winner of the game. The rivalry between the two schools started in 1893.
Women’s basketball
St. Norbert 65, Lawrence 57
APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University women’s basketball team endured a cold shooting day in a 65-57 nonconference loss to St. Norbert College on Saturday at Alexander Gymnasium.
Lawrence (1-2) shot just 29.3 percent from the floor, but the Vikings led after three quarters.
Charlotte Brennan poured in 24 points for the Vikings to lead all scorers. Brennan went 4-for-7 from 3-point range and 10-for-12 from the foul line. Maggie Culver added 13 points and had a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Vikings built a 39-29 lead with 6:47 left in the third quarter after Culver drained a 3-pointer. Lawrence went 7-for-19 from beyond the arc in the game.
St. Norbert (3-0) scored the next 11 points to tie the game at 39-39, and Lawrence took a 44-43 lead into the fourth quarter. The Green Knights then scored the game’s next nine points to go up 52-44.
St. Norbert pushed the lead to 61-50, but the Vikings would trim the lead back to 63-57 on a pair of free throws by Culver. That’s as close as the Vikings would get.
St. Norbert was 24-for-56 (42.9 percent) from the floor. Taylor Thiry led the Green Knights with 18 points and six rebounds, while Kalina Winslow had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Emma Morrisey added nine points.
