GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Green Bay’s city clerk Celestine Jeffreys said in her Tuesday evening update that absentee ballot counting at Central Count is going “methodically forward.”
Jeffreys gave her first update of the day at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, her second at 2:30 p.m. and her third at 6:30 p.m. and another update at 10 p.m.
So far, Jeffreys said 4,363 absentee ballots had been processed, out of more than 20,000.
“We check against the absentee poll book, we read the name out loud, just like we do at polls. We open it up, flatten the ballot, so that takes quite a bit of time,” Jeffreys said.
Jeffreys said she replenished ballot supplies at 10 wards and also replenished registration materials at some voting locations.
She said machine issues that popped up earlier in the day had been resolved.
One thing that Jeffreys said will be done differently in the next election is moving the polling location in Colburn.
“Colburn is too small. We had a polling location pull out, we needed to quickly get another polling location… so I’ll be looking at some additional polling locations. I may keep Colburn, but only for one ward,” she said.
There is no estimate as to when all the ballots will be counted, Jeffreys said. Police will remain on-site at City Hall as a precaution until the ballots have all been processed.
