(ST. NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS, LAWRENCE ATHLETICS, WNFL) – WAUWATOSA – St. Norbert College cruised to a big 55-7 win on the road over Wisconsin Lutheran College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Raabe Stadium.
The Green Knights (5-3, 5-1 NACC) won their fifth straight game and raced out to a 27-0 lead before halftime, scoring on five of their first six possessions.
Peyton Lyon and Paul Bageanis connected for two touchdowns in the first half, hitting on aerials of 17 and 37 yards. Patrick Oden was a force on the ground as well, scoring the Green Knights’ third touchdown of the first half with a 16-yard run.
Tyler Jurgensen hit two field goals from 20 and 39 yards in the first half, helping the Green Knights put up a 27-0 lead going into halftime.
Lyon connected with two more touchdown passes in the third quarter, finding Ben Berg and Mitch Van Vooren in the endzone on throws of 30 and 22 yards, respectively. Van Vooren, who leads the Green Knights in touchdowns with seven, has now caught touchdown passes in four out of the last five games. Berg’s touchdown was the first of the season and career.
Connor Kelly’s touchdown in the fourth quarter was St. Norbert’s sixth of the day, coming off a 1-yard rush for his first touchdown of the season.
A 65-yard pick six from defensive back Brett Boelkow put an exclamation mark on the win, closing out St. Norbert’s scoring with 5:28 left to play. Wisconsin Lutheran would get its only score on a late touchdown off a 56-yard touchdown pass from Nate Griffeth with 3:28 remaining.
Lyon completed 18 of 28 passes for 258 yards and four touchdowns. His yardage through the air were the most the junior has had in a game this season.
St. Norbert went over 200 yards on the ground, with Oden leading the way with 127 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries.
Bageanis caught five passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns, while Van Vooren caught three for 83 and a score.
Four different players recorded sacks on the Warriors, including Boelkow who along with his pick six also forced a fumble.
St. Norbert outgained the Warriors 468-203 in total offense and 25-4 in first downs.
Kyle Santos had a team-high four tackles, while Beau Allison, Boelkow and Brian Treacy all added three stops.
The Maroons held Lawrence to 273 yards of offense, and the Vikings committed four turnovers.
Chicago (5-3, 5-2 MWC) had two 100-yard rushers, and quarterback Teddy Gouldin went 18-for-30 for 121 yards and four touchdowns.
Lawrence quarterback Aidan Williams was 15-for-27 for 199 yards and a touchdown. Alex Lippert posted a 100-yard receiving day with six catches for 122 yards for the Vikings (1-7, 1-6).
Jon Pasquarello led the Lawrence defense with eight tackles, and Taylen Clinkscales and Jacob Stanley had seven stops apiece. Cornerback Jahlan Paul had four pass breakups and added five tackles for the Vikings.
Lawrence got its first touchdown of the day after Carter Rivers forced a fumble, which was recovered by Tucker Holmes at the Chicago six-yard line. Two plays later, Kebron Miles pounded the ball in from six yards out for a touchdown to trim the lead to 14-7 late in the first quarter.
That’s as close as the Vikings would get as Chicago pulled away over the next two quarters.
The Vikings put together a scoring drive in the fourth quarter with Lippert turning a bubble screen into a 52-yard gain to the Chicago 18-yard line. Williams hit Kyle Zumdome with a touchdown pass on the next play to cut the lead to 57-14.
Lawrence is back at the Banta Bowl next Saturday when the Vikings host Knox College.
