(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) The Marquette University women’s soccer team (6-11-3, 3-6-1 BIG EAST) wrapped up the 2024 season with a 3-0 victory at Seton Hall (4-12-3, 1-7-2 BIG EAST) on Thursday night.
Marquette opened the scoring at the 8:20 mark when sophomore Haley Christianson found the back of the net for the first time in her career. Forward Josie Bieda played a ball back to Kiley McMinn and her shot from distance hit the keeper and crossbar before Christianson was able to tap home the rebound.
The Golden Eagles pushed the advantage to 2-0 in the 40th minutes when Carina Murphy forced a SHU turnover along the back line and Julia O’Neill attacked the goal down the right side. Her shot was saved, but senior Aislinn Boyle was crashing the net at the far post and tapped home the rebound from eight yards out.
After senior Chloe Olson took over at the intermission and faced multiple SHU shots in the opening minutes, the Golden Eagles regained control of possession and eventually moved ahead 3-0 in the 70th minute. Senior Alexa Maletis’ corner found the head of classmate Carina Murphy, who netted her second of the campaign to put the match out of reach for the Pirates.
The Golden Eagles finished with 19 shots and eight corner kicks and netminders Elise Krone and Chloe Olson combined to the shutout and seven total saves.
