(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) The No. 18/17 Marquette University men’s basketball team (0-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) opens its 108th season of competition on Monday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. CT when the team hosts Stony Brook (0-0, 0-0 CAA) at Fiserv Forum.
FS1 features the national television broadcast, with Jeff Levering (play-by-play) and Terrence Ogelsby (analyst) calling the action. Following Monday’s outing, the Golden Eagles will continue their season-opening three-game homestand against George Mason on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Al McGuire Center in a “students only” game.
Fourth-year head coach Shaka Smart returns three starters and eight total letterwinners from last year’s 27-10 squad, which made the program’s third-straight trip to the NCAA tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2013.
Marquette Hoping To Continue Opening Success
Marquette has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success on opening night and hopes to continue that trend in 2024-25 when the team faces Stony Brook.
The Golden Eagles are 91-16 (.850) all-time in campaign lidlifters and have claimed 31 of their last 33 overall. Marquette had an impressive streak of 29 years in which it started 1-0, dating from 1960-61 to 1988-89.
Monday’s opener will mark the first-ever meeting between the Golden Eagles and Seawolves, but Seawolves assistant Mark Dixon spent each of the past three seasons at Marquette after serving as a manager under Shaka Smart at Texas.
