APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Yia Lor was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with a chance at parole after 40 years for a January 2023 murder linked to a drug deal.
A jury convicted Lor, 39, of first-degree intentional homicide for four other counts in connection with the death of Paul Rhoads on North Briarcliff Drive.
Before the sentence was issued, Lor declined the chance to address the court.
Lor’s sentence will start after the seven-year sentence he’s currently serving from a Sheboygan County case, Judge Emily Lonergan decided.
According to the criminal complaint, a witness told police Rhoads had set up a drug deal, and Lor arrived in Appleton, and “Yia shot (Rhoads) shortly thereafter.”
Lor is currently housed at the Stanley Correctional Institution, state records show.
