(WNFL) – The Green Bay Packers continue preparing today to face yet another AFC South opponent after having already played the Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans and Indianaspolis Colts.
Next up it’s the Jacksonville Jaguars at noon in Florida.
Historically speaking: The Packers are 5-2 in the series, including wins in each of the last three matchups.
- Green Bay is 3-1 in games played at the Jaguars, including a 27-23 win in its last away game against Jacksonville in 2016. The Packers scored 24-plus points in all three of the road victories.
- Even though the Packers last played the Jaguars on the road in 2016, Green Bay did play at EverBank Stadium in 2021 when the New Orleans Saints were forced to relocate their Week 1 home game to Jacksonville due to a hurricane.
- Green Bay has scored 24-plus points six times against Jacksonville. Each of the last six games between the teams have been decided by single digits.
- In four of the last five contests between the two teams, the margin was four or fewer points.
Making a name for himself: Punters often go unnoticed unless they are doing exceptionally well or … well … have fans calling for him to be put on the waiver wire.
Packers punter Daniel Whelan is the former and not the latter this season.
- Whelan has punted 12 times this season at Lambeau Field, placing six of those punts inside the 20. Seven of his 12 punts at home have been for 50-plus yards.
- Whelan punted five times for 284 yards in Week 7, a 56.8-yard gross average that is the second-best singlegame average in team history (min. four punts) behind only Roy McKay’s 61.6-yard average on five punts vs. the Chicago Cardinals on Oct. 28, 1945.
- Whelan’s net average of 51.6 yards in Week 7 is the top single-game mark in team history (since 1976, min. four punts).
- In Week 7, Whelan tied his single-game career high (Week 4 vs. Minnesota this season) with two punts of 60-plus yards (66, 61).
- In Week 7, Whelan became the first NFL punter to punt five-plus times and post a gross average of 56-plus yards and a net average of 51-plus yards in a game since Raiders P AJ Cole vs. Indianapolis on Nov. 13, 2022.
- Whelan posted a career-long 74-yard punt in the second quarter of Week 4. Dating back to 2000, it was the second-longest punt by a Packer behind only Corey Bojorquez’s 82-yarder at Chicago on Oct. 17, 2021
