BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Brown County residents flocked to early voting sites Tuesday, looking to avoid the crowds on Election Day.
It was a busy morning for the Clerk’s Office in De Pere. They saw around 200 voters within just the first few hours of early in-person voting.
“We’re still seeing averages around 30-40% of people choosing to vote absentee, whether it’s by mail or the two week in-person process,” said De Pere’s City Clerk Carey Danen.
It was a similar sight in Green Bay, as people waited in line to cast their vote at City Hall.
Voters say they understand how high the stakes are in this election, given the sheer amount of ballot items. That includes the bid for president, Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate seat and the 8th Congressional District, along with numerous local races and school referendum questions.

“I really wanted to make sure I got it done before, so I didn’t have to think about it anymore. This is such an important election that every vote counts,” said Joette Frey.
Danen says they’ve seen voters show confusion with some ballot items, such as the statewide referendum question which aims to clarify who exactly is eligible to vote in Wisconsin.
“We are fortunate — our county clerk provides us with a kind of Layman’s term explanation. You know, a yes vote means this, a no vote means that,” said Danen. “And we post that, we have it posted here where we’re doing the absentee and it’s also posted at the polls, so that will help voters.”
Early voting will continue across the state through Nov. 1.
