(GREEN BAY PHOENIX ATHLETICS) GREEN BAY – Green Bay held Youngstown St. scoreless and cruised to a 3-0 shutout win Sunday at home at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The Phoenix scored all three goals in less than a 10-minute span in the first half.
Green Bay improved to 4-6-4 overall and 2-3-2 in Horizon League action after the victory.
How it Happened
After a fairly uneventful start to the game, Green Bay grabbed a 1-0 lead when freshman Abby Lom recorded her first career goal in the 33rd minute, which was assisted by Trudy Quidzinski and Hanna Arvay. Shortly after that, the Phoenix tacked on another score on a goal from Laney Stark — her second goal of the season — in the 34th minute, assisted by Senah Hanes.
Green Bay expanded its lead to 3-0 on Hanes’ 41st-minute goal, her Horizon League leading eighth of the season. Arvay assisted the goal.
A huge part of the game came in the 49th minute, where freshman Alondra Iriarte made a diving save on a penalty kick to help preserve the shutout.
The Phoenix has three games left in the regular season, and will head to face Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m.
