(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) GREEN BAY – The Green Bay men’s soccer team tied Northern Kentucky 0-0 on an overcast Saturday afternoon in Titletown. GB outshot the Norse 13-6, but there was just one shot on goal between the two teams.
Green Bay moved to 9-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in Horizon play after the tie. The Phoenix have just one loss in their last 11 contests. NKU moved to 2-2-7 overall and 1-0-4 in HL action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GB didn’t record its first shot of the game until the 17th minute when Aidan Fong booted one over the crossbar. It began a brief burst of opportunity for the Phoenix, with Tommy Coughlin, Kolton Prater, and So Nishikawa all recording shots a few minutes later. Both teams had a stingy defense in the first half, with neither team recording a shot in the last 15:18 of the opening frame. Each team had a corner kick in the late stages of the first half, but it was nill-nill at the break.
Out of intermission, opportunities were at a premium. NKU had just three shots. Green Bay had a couple of prime chances, first by Paolucci in the 62nd minute, but Norse keeper Nic Lemen made his save. Moments later, Chris Album headed a pass in the box just left of the woodwork, and it remained 0-0. Green Bay goalkeeper Alvaro Rodriguez faced no shots on goal, and the Phoenix couldn’t convert on a couple of last-minute chances in the 0-0 draw.
