STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A popular business in Door County is continuing their philanthropic mission in the wake of hurricanes Helene and Milton.
The Door County Candle Company is bringing back the Beachside Candle.
“We launched this candle initially a few years ago for hurricane Ian relief, and we raised $14 thousand,” said Owner Christiana Trapani. “When hurricane Helene hit, we wanted to do something to help.”
The candle hit the shelves again on Friday and so far has raised over $3.5 thousand for American Red Cross efforts towards Helene.
Trapani says she hopes to raise at least $10 thousand.
“We will keep selling them as long as people are buying them,” said Trapani. “Now with this other hurricane brewing, we are most likely going to have this candle not only benefitting Helene, but also Milton.”
Aside from selling the candle, store employee Jane Nesbitt is on the ground with the Red Cross in North Carolina.
“She has been helping with search and rescue, and a lot of helping people who have been hurt,” said Trapani. “She used to be a nurse so those skills have been incredible.”
