MADISON, WIS. (Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024) – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced today that the NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey National Championship will be held at Bob Suter’s Legacy20 Arena in Middleton on March 23-25, 2028. The bid to host the prestigious event was submitted in collaboration by the WIAC, Legacy 20 and the Madison Area Sports Commission.
“We are proud to partner with the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and Legacy20 Arena in Middleton on winning the bid to bring this first-class event to the Greater Madison Area,” said Jamie Patrick, Executive Vice President of Sales & Sports Strategy at MASC. “Wisconsin is a great hockey state, and this event adds to our resume of being the home for high-level athletes, competitions, championships and culture.”
It’s the first time this championship has been hosted in the Madison area and a true testament to Wisconsin’s reputation for winning hockey schools, fantastic facilities and enthusiastic crowds that come out to support athletes, families and fans. This event will bring nearly $740,000 to the local economy.

hosting NCAA events that provide an economic boost to our communities.
The WIAC has a strong legacy in hockey and since 2010, has won three NCAA titles, twice by UW-Stevens Point and once by UW-Eau Claire. UW-Stevens Point has also been runner-up twice during that span. Additionally, St. Norbert College, a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) member based in De Pere, Wis., has won four NCAA Championships and was also runner-up twice.
The NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey Championships is held twice every four years at a pre-determined site bringing an extra significance to hosting during a neutral site year.
