(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) – Green Bay volleyball put forth a valiant effort Tuesday night, but fell to 3-1 to pick up their first Horizon League loss of the season.
Unfortunately, Green Bay’s leading attacker, Cora Behnke went down early with a leg injury and did not return. Stepping up in her absence was Katie Schultz, who led the squad with 19 kills on the night, with Emma Best grabbing a new season-high kill total with 11. Defensively, Best tallied 10 digs, while Abby Gardner’s 19 led GB for the night. Calli Gentry led Green Bay in assists by a clear margin with 39, with Ellie Kurpeikis leading the Phoenix with 4 aces and a hitting percentage of .455.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The start of the match set the tone for the rest of the evening, with both sides of the Battle of I-43 exchanging blows. Neither team got ahead by more than 4, but it was Milwaukee closing out set one by a score of 25-23.
SET 2 | Green Bay grabbed the lead early in set 2]two and never looked back. Leading as high as 7 points in the frame. Green Bay closed out Milwaukee for the 25-20 victory, thanks in part to 6 Milwaukee service errors, and a Panther hitting percentage of just .053.
SET 3 | Milwaukee grabbed the early lead, but Green Bay brought it back, tying the match at 18 a piece the set was tied 18 a piece. The Panthers closed out the set with a 7-1 run to take set three 25-19.
SET 4 | The fourth set started with the teams neck and neck with Milwaukee grabbing the early lead. Despite closing a 20-15 score to 20-18, the Panthers ultimately closed out the match grabbing the 25-19 victory in the fourth.
GAME NOTES
» Milwaukee outscored GB 95-86.
» The two teams were extremely close in the assist category, Milwaukee tallying 53 to Green Bay’s 52.
» Four different Phoenix had over 10 attacks each in the match, as high as Schulz’s 46.

Green Bay will have a two-game home stand against Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.
