MARINETTE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — After Marinette County threatened to remove political signs on government-owned land, the signs were taken down without incident, the county said Monday.
Of particular concern was a stretch of road in Porterfield along Highway 180. As state law and county ordinances prohibit signs on the road right-of-way, the county said it would issue notices of violation. If the signs weren’t removed by today, the county would take them down.
That wasn’t necessary, according to Marinette County Highway Commissioner Eric Burmeister.
“There has been great public cooperation. All the signs that were in question along State Highway 180 have been relocated outside the public right of way,” he said on Monday.
Anyone with questions about where government land ends and their property begins should contact (715) 732-7568. Burmeister says he and his team are happy to help.
