MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Wisconsin’s state Supreme Court ruled Friday that Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s name will remain on the state ballot. The decision upholds a lower court ruling.
Kennedy suspended his campaign in August and endorsed Donald Trump. Since then he has been trying to get his name off the ballot in key battleground states. His name will also remain on the ballot in Michigan; it will be off the ballot in North Carolina.
The Wisconsin Election Commission had decided earlier in the matter that state law requires a qualified candidate to remain on the ballot unless they die before election day. Kennedy’s lawyers had argued that state law is unfair because there are different timelines to amend the ballot for Democrat and Republican candidates than for independents. Kennedy’s lawyers suggested that clerks could place a white sticker over Kennedy’s name on ballots that have already been printed.
Already in Wisconsin more than 400,000 ballots have been sent to voters.
