MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An appeals court Wednesday upheld the conviction and life sentence for a woman who caused the death of a child in her care.
Jamie Schrank, 45, was convicted of several counts, including physical abuse of a child, repeated acts causing death, for the July 2018 death of the 3-year-old. She was sentenced to life in prison with the chance to ask for parole after 25 years.
The appeal court reviewed several issues, including the weight of the evidence, effectiveness of her attorney, and how two cases were joined.
“Because we conclude that there would be no arguable merit to any issue that could be raised on appeal, we accept the no-merit report,” the court ruled, affirming the conviction.
Schrank is currently housed at the Taycheedah Correctional Institution.
