ASHWAUBENON, WI (WLUK) — Cancer patients were surprised by two members of the green and gold Tuesday.
Packers players Elgton Jenkins and Jaire Alexander helped kick off the eighth annual Packers Vs. Cancer initiative at the Bellin Health Cancer Team facility in Ashwaubenon.
The campaign, which runs all October, aims to educate fans on the importance of early screening and detection, while working to raise funds to help support the ongoing fight against cancer.
As part of the kickoff, Jenkins and Alexander got a tour of the facility and visited with cancer patients and health care professionals.
Some patients even received a special edition Packers Vs. Cancer hat.
The winter knitted hat will be sold at the Packers Pro Shop in October. Five dollars of each purchase goes to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. Shoppers can also round up any of their purchases to support the cause.
The Packers Vs. Cancer campaign will formally kick off during Sunday’s game at Lambeau Field against the Minnesota Vikings.
