BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) — Brown County is continuing to make progress towards livestreaming their public meetings.
Ross Toellner, district 24 supervisor of Brown County says their process of livestreaming meetings is different from other municipalities, like Green Bay.
“We need to be up to ADA [Americans with Disabilities Act] standards through state level in the state legislature, not just through what a city, town, or village would go through,” said Toellner. “We just have a different level of code and a different level of law.”
Specifically, ADA laws state that the county has to have 99th percentile accuracy on closed captioning.
Brown County is planning to meet with a consultant to guide them through the next steps. It’s currently unclear how much it would cost to properly livestream the meetings.
“Right now, funding would probably have to come from the levy, which is taxpayer money,” said Toellner. “There’s a good chance our taxpayers would want money to go towards this, but it does take away from other things we could do.”
The Brown County Administration Committee will look further at livesteaming during their October 10 meeting at 6 p.m. in the Brown County Northern Building at 305 E. Walnut Street in Green Bay.
