(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) NEW YORK – Junior midfielder Mitar Mitrovic of the Marquette men’s soccer program was honored by the BIG EAST being named to the Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending September 22, following a 3- 2 victory over Villanova in the teams confrence opening matchup.
The Belgrade, Serbia native recorded his first career brace in the match at Villanova with both of his goals coming off penalty kicks. In the 13th minute the Wildcats were called for a handball in their box, leading to a penalty kick for Marquette. Mitrovic took the PK and found the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1.
Still in the early stages of the first half, Villanova gets called for another foul in their box after Abdoul Karim Pare tracked down an aerial ball. The foul resulted in MU getting rewarded with yet another penalty kick in which Mitrovic found the back of the net for his second time of the match, giving the Golden Eagles a 2-1 advantage.
Marquette went on to win the match 3-2 after Ryan Amond netted the game winning goal in the 67th minute with a left foot missile from just outside the top of the box.
The Golden Eagles are back in action vs Butler in their BIG EAST home opener on Saturday, September 28 at 7:00 pm at Valley Fields.
