KIMBERLY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The former Shopko building in Kimberly officially has new life.
Festival Foods opened Friday in the former department store building at 800 E. Maes Ave.
The building had been closed to the public since the Shopko chain went out of business in 2019. Festival Foods bought the building for $1.75 million at auction in 2022.
It is near The Cedars development, where several apartments and condominiums have been built on the site of the former New Page paper mill.
The opening comes about a month and a half after plans moved forward for the site of another Shopko building that was torn down last year. In August, the De Pere city council approved a five story, 64-unit apartment development on the downtown land. It will be the first of as many as five buildings on the site. The city expects investment into the site on N. Broadway to be about $90 million.
