GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The city of Green Bay is receiving a federal grant to build a wildlife viewing platform and shoreline walk at Bay Beach Amusement Park.
According to Sen. Tammy Baldwin’s office, the $2.4 million is coming from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
Officials say the project is intended to bring improved recreation, learning opportunities, wildlife viewing, fishing opportunities and waterfront access at the park and within Green Bay water body.
According to Green Bay Parks director, Dan Ditscheit, the 425-foot wildlife viewing platform will extend from the Big Wheel ride and will replace the shoreline walk eastward, past the train tracks to the east. The city council first has to approve the project which will be discussed at Parks Committee on Wednesday.
If approved, construction would start in fall of 2025.
The wildlife viewing platform is part of a larger plan to bring back a swimming beach to the area, but that work is not included in this phase.
