(WTAQ-WLUK) — A virtual vigil will be held Friday evening to mark one week since police confirmed the discovery of remains belonging to Elijah Vue.
The online event was organized by two local community members and advertised on social media. Everyone is invited to participate, regardless of where you live.
All you have to do to show your support is light a candle or turn on a blue light. According to the Two Rivers Police Department, blue was Vue’s favorite color.
Let us all come “together” and honor this sweet, young boy [whose] life was taken way too soon… During the time posted, light a candle, turn on a blue light, anything to help remember this sweet child.
Organizers encourage you to invite your family and friends to participate, and share your pictures on social media on the day of the vigil.
3-year-old Vue was reported missing from a Two Rivers apartment Feb. 20 by his caregiver, Jesse Vang.
Prosecutors say Vue’s mother, Katrina Baur sent her son to live with Vang — her boyfriend — at his Two Rivers apartment for “disciplinary reasons.”
An Amber Alert was issued and over the course of the next seven months, extensive searches were conducted by law enforcement and volunteers.
It wasn’t until Sept. 7 that a man preparing his land for hunting season found human remains on private property near the entrance of Camp Manitou, a Girl Scout camp in Manitowoc County. It is about three miles northwest from where Vue was originally reported missing.
Baur and Vang have both been jailed since soon after Vue went missing. Both face child neglect charges related to the condition of the home and treatment of the boy.
To this point, neither Baur nor Vang has been charged in connection with Vue’s disappearance or death.
Officials emphasize that the investigation into Vue’s death will be a lengthy process and aske the public to remain patient with law enforcement and respect Vue’s family as they grieve.
Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact police.
