OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) — The City of Oshkosh may be looking to update its parking policy.
Parking between 2 – 5 a.m. is not allowed in Oshkosh. Tickets for violating the rule are $30, but can increase to $65 if not paid within 30 days.
While you can park overnight if you have a permit, there is a limited availability.
City Council member Jacob Floam says they’re looking into other options for the parking policy.
“We could do opposite side street parking, and we do have some of that already depending on the neighborhood,” said Floam. “The next option is to do away with the regulations altogether. That would probably be the most maximalist option for opening up spaces to park, but that also impedes city operations like street sweeping, and in the winter, plowing.”
Oshkosh residents are encouraged to take a survey to share their thoughts. Based on the outcome of the survey, Floam says different policies could be crafted for different neighborhoods.
“The transportation committee and council will review what we got back from citizens in terms of the raw data and trends,” said Floam. “And then we will task that committee to make a policy recommendation if one is required, then we will adopt it.”
