(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s soccer team (2-5-2, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) continued a three-match homestand with 1-1 draw against Milwaukee (1-6-1, 0-0-0 Horizon) on Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring at the 17:49 mark when sophomore Ella McAleenan headed home a perfectly-placed cross from the right side into the back of the net. UWM answered on its best opportunity of the half, tapping home a cross that hit the crossbar just inside the far post at the 27:31 mark.
“Ella’s goal was fantastic,” head coach Chris Allen said. “It’s something we have been working in and one of the reasons we brought Ella here. The first 15 minutes we were flying and I felt good about it and then we couldn’t sustain it and faced some adversity.
“I liked our effort, but it comes down to execution and decision making and they (Milwaukee) are just a bit more seasoned than us right now,” Allen added.
Marquette survived consistent pressure from the Panthers in the second half to earn the draw, creating just limited chances on the offensive end. UWM finished with a 15-8 advantage in shots, but both keepers were forced to make just a pair of saves.
