(WNFL) – The Green Bay Packers lost their 2024 regular-season opener 34-29 to the 34-29 to the Philadelphia Eagles in Sao Paulo, Brazil and saw quarterback Jordan Love go down with an ankle injury late in the game.
It was a sloppy game and Packers coach Matt LaFleur said that not only did the players make mistakes, so did the coaching staff.
Audio PlayerThe Packers got off to a good start in the game, taking a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on field goals of 31 and 23 yards by kicker Brayden Narveson and forced a pair of Philadelphia turnovers.
Philadelphia then got its first score on an 18-yard pass from Jalen Hurts to Saquan Barkley to make it 7-6 in the second quarter.
The Packers then scored on a 33-yard run around the right end by Jayden Reed. The 2-point extra point failed.
The 2 teams continued to exchange scores as Barkley scored from 11 yards out with the Packers responding with a 70-yard touchdown pass from Love to Reed.
Philadelphia then finished the first half scoring with a 38-yard field goal by Jake Elliott.
The Eagles started the scoring in the third quarter on a 67-yard pass from Hurts to AJ Brown.
The Packers then responded with a 2-yard scoring strike from Love to Christian Watson.
Barkley then finished off the third-quarter scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run.
The fourth-quarter scoring consisted of an exchange of field goals – 26 yards by Narveson and 21 yards by Elliott.
Barkley finished with 109 yards rushing for Philadelphia while Josh Jacobs had 84 yards on the ground for the Packers.
Love completed 17-of-34 passes for 260 yards and 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.
His Philadelphia counterpart Hurts was 20-of-34 for 278 yards.
Reed had 4 catches for 134 yards for the Packers and he talked about the offense getting only 9 points off of 3 Packers take-aways.

The Packers finished with 414 yards of offense while Philadelphia had 410.
Packers safety Xavier McKinney talked about the defense under new co-ordinator Jeff Hafley.

Javon Bullard and Quay Walker both had 11 tackles for the Packers.
Love hurt: The Packers quarterback was hurt with 5 seconds left in the game when his left ankle was rolled up on while Jalen Carter and Josh Sweat were in the process of tacking him. Love was able to walk off the field with the help of trainers.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur was short and to the point when asked about Love’s injury.
