AUBURN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The pilot of a small aircraft that crashed in the middle of a Fond du Lac County cornfield died from his injuries.
On Monday, around 8:30 p.m., dispatch began receiving multiple reports of a possible plane crash near the area of Townhall Road and Highway 45 in the town of Auburn.
When crews located the aircraft, the pilot, an 89-year-old Campbellsport area man, appeared to have significant injuries and was trapped inside.
An additional ambulance and helicopter were called to the scene.
Firefighters were able to extricate the pilot and EMS personal started to treat the pilot’s injuries. Unfortunately, the pilot had succumbed to his injuries before he was able to be transported from the scene.
The plane crash is still under investigation but does not appear suspicious at this time, deputies say.
The aircraft was considered an ultralight fixed wing aircraft powered by a small engine and propeller.
