MOUNT PLEASANT, WI (WSAU) – Foxconn is already benefiting from environmental exemptions allowing the Taiwanese company to build a massive plant in Racine County. Wisconsin enacted a law last year that lifted restrictions on filling state protected wetlands. As a result, Foxconn has no obligation to minimize its impact on 42 wetlands that cover the area where the massive plant will be built.
Environmental exemptions were part of Foxconn’s huge incentive package for the project. The agreement also calls for legal challenges to be appealed directly to the state Supreme Court. Supporters say that provision reduces the chances that lawsuits will delay the project.
Foxconn hopes the begin construction this spring. Up to 13,000 could be employed at the new LCD manufacturing facility by the time it’s fully operational in 2023.
