WAUWATOSA, WI (WSAU) – J.C. Penney is shutting down its distribution center and customer service center in Wauwatosa. The retailer will begin closing the two-million-square foot facility this summer.
670 jobs will be lost. The shut-down will begin this summer, and will be completely closed by September 1st. Employees were notified by email on Tuesday. The work will be transferred to other distribution centers in Ohio and Kansas.
The company is among a number of department store chains shuttering stores to deal with competition from online and discount retailers. They’ve been closing unprofitable stores across the country, including Wisconsin locations in Marinette, Richland Center, Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids last year.
