EAU CLAIRE, WI (WSAU-MetroSource) – Royal Credit Union says skimmer devices were found on four ATMs. The devices were discovered in Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and New Richmond.
The credit union says it believes the skimmers were on the machines for only a few hours. They have identified the timeframe for the fraudulent activities and has notified affected card holders.
Royal is also working with local law enforcement to address the problem.
The skimmers could capture the card data and PIN numbers of people who use the machines. It’s not clear how much, if any, user data was compromised.
A company news release said: “Beginning today [Tuesday], new anti-skimming devices are being installed on all Royal ATM machines.”
