OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Police are encouraging Oshkosh boaters to be on alert after numerous reports of stolen fishing gear.
According to a news release Tuesday from the Oshkosh Police Department, an investigation has been opened into “several thefts of items from boats located throughout the City of Oshkosh.”
Officials say it’s been happening for the last few weeks, and fishing gear is being stolen.
To keep yourself from becoming a victim, the Oshkosh Police Department recommends you take the following safety precautions:
- Remove items of value from boats
- Park boats in a well-lit area
- Park in an area that has video surveillance
