DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A snowy owl ambassador at a bird sanctuary has died.
The Open Door Bird Sanctuary introduced Oslo to the public in April 2023. It was recently discovered he had a rare blood condition. Oslo spent two weeks receiving round-the-clock medication and care before he died Thursday night, according to the center.
In a statement, the sanctuary wrote:
It is a tough loss for all of us, but it is in the nature of what we do here at Open Door: Providing care for these wonderful creatures that have already had their life compromised in some way. We will continue to offer future care to many more raptors in need, and will always remember our awesome Snowy, Oslo.
Oslo came to the 34-acre sanctuary west of Jacksonport after being hit by a car in Minnesota. He suffered a broken wing and concussion.
The name “Oslo” was chosen through a public contest that received more than 200 submissions.
