TIGERTON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — One person is dead and another sustained serious injuries after an ATV crash in Shawano County.
Shortly after 8:30 a.m. Saturday, an employee of the Tigerton OHV Park and Campground called 911 after coming upon the scene of the crash, where an ATV had struck a tree in the Embarrass River OHV Park.
Two individuals were located — one was unresponsive and another was in serious condition. CPR was in progress when first responders arrived.
One male was taken to ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano and another was airlifted to a trauma center, but he was pronounced dead.
Officials say neither individual were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. They were riding an ATV designed for only one passenger, and it was not registered. It is believed alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Names have not yet been released. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is investigating the crash.
Police encourage everyone to keep basic ATV and UTV safety principles in mind, including wearing a helmet, buckling up, completing ATV/UTV safety courses and driving responsibly.
