TOWNSHIP OF GIBSON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An early-morning vehicle pursuit in Manitowoc County ended in one man’s arrest.
According to a news release, the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the intersection of West Zander Road and County Highway B in the township of Gibson “for a complaint of 2021 Ford F250 parked in the wrong lane of travel with the operator asleep/passed out behind the wheel.”
The responding deputy made multiple attempts to gain the driver’s attention in an attempt to ensure he was not experiencing a medical emergency. Once the operator awoke, he revved the vehicle’s motor and drove away from the deputy.
Because the deputy had observed signs of impairment and open intoxicants in the vehicle, a vehicle pursuit was initiated. It lasted nine minutes and spanned 14.5 miles in northeast Manitowoc County.
Additional deputies responded and successfully deployed tire deflation devices, which slowed the vehicle down and ended the pursuit.
The suspect, a 33-year-old man from the township of Gibson, was taken to the Manitowoc County Jail. He is facing charges of:
- Operating while intoxicated – 4th offense
- Flee/elude officer
- Second degree reckless endangering safety
- Operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license
- Open intoxicants in a motor vehicle
