GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An event next month is giving the Green Bay community a chance to get up close and personal with the city’s SWAT team.
The Green Bay Police Department (GBPD) is hosting a family-friendly event for the public to learn more about what it’s like to be part of the Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) unit.
It’s being held Aug. 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at CrossFit Green Bay – East. All ages and abilities are welcome to attend. General admission is free.
Attendees can meet the SWAT team and recruitment staff, see the officers in action through demonstrations and check out GBPD vehicles and equipment.
For a $10 fee, attendees can participate in a SWAT Physical Fitness Test sponsored by CrossFit Green Bay.
“This event is an opportunity for our residents to learn about the Green Bay Police Department SWAT team and our response, movement, and techniques in an attempt for a safe resolution,” said Sergeant Mike Luberda, a GBPD SWAT team member.
“We want our community to feel comfortable if there’s a need for us to respond to their neighborhood and to know that we are normal people with normal lives who happen to have a high-risk job.”
