MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Milwaukee area community groups are calling for an independent investigation after Ohio police shot and killed a homeless veteran this week.
Street Angels Milwaukee, the ACLU and Voces de la Frontera want to know what led to Tuesday’s shooting of Samuel Sharpe Junior by several Columbus, Ohio Police officers.
Columbus Police were in Milwaukee as part of security for the Republican National Convention.
The groups contend the presence of out of state officers without local supervision increases the risk of violent encounters.
Body camera footage released this week shows Sharpe confronting another man while armed with a pair of knives.
The officers can be heard ordering Sharpe to drop the knives before opening fire.
