WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Former Waupaca County Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Szilagyi faces two charges for allegedly threatening a judge and another prosecutor.
Szilagyi, 42, was charged Monday. A warrant for his arrest was issued and no initial court date is set, according to court records.
Szilagyi is no longer with the district attorney’s office.
According to the criminal complaint, Szilagyi may have been upset about an incident in court.
“The text was received at 0858hrs, on July 15th, 2024. The text states “At this point, [VICTIM] I feel it’s fair to let you know that you are on my (expletive) list. If I hear you name again you’re gonna be sorry. Have a nice life. Victim1 felt this was a legitimate threat against him, based on a prior court hearing from July 1st, 2024, where Victim1 called out Benjamin for not being prepared. Benjamin sent a text on July 1st, 2024 at 1527hrs, stating his displeasure,” the complaint states.
Waupaca County has three judges but the complaint does not identify which he was upset with.
Szilagyi faces a second count for an alleged incident with an unnamed prosecutor.
“Another incident took place on July 10th, 2024 with Benjamin and Victim2, being a Waupaca County prosecutor, regarding a phone call she received. They were called out of a meeting, sometime before 1300hrs, and was told they had an important phone call from Benjamin. Victim2 stated the moment they answered, Benjamin “began shouting in a very loud and forceful voice at me. He stated that I should keep his name out of my mother-(expletive)-mouth or things are going to get a hell of a lot worse for me. Victim2 was also tagged in a Facebook post, by Benjamin to a song by Kendrick Lamar ‘Euphoria’ which has a violent tone to the song, and Victim2 felt it was very threatening as well,” the complaint states.
He graduated from Georgetown University law school in 2010, according the State Bar of Wisconsin directory.
