GREEN BAY (WLUK) — A fire destroyed apartment complex garage Saturday evening on Green Bay’s west side.
Fire officials got the call from the Colonial Pines Apartments around 7:30.
The complex has four residential buildings, but the fire was in the detached, 16-stall garage. Officials say when they arrived, the garage was fully engulfed in flames.
Green Bay Fire Battalion Chief David Kolz says someone was working on a car in the garage when they noticed the flames starting.
“With automobiles, tires, gasoline; burns hot quick and very dark, we had a big header coming in,” says Kolz. “We were able to get water on it right away, of course, it was a big challenge because we had to rip down the garage doors and find the seat of the fire.”
Although it’s a 16-stall garage, Kolz says he believes there were only four or five cars inside at the time.
Two residents were treated on scene for breathing problems. One other resident was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Green Bay Metro Fire Department says the fire caused $450,000 in damage and started on the south side of the structure.
