FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A second man was convicted for a fire bombing incident in Fond du Lac nearly eight years ago.
Elliot Schneider was found guilty on three felony charges — damage of property by use of explosives, first degree recklessly endangering safety and felony bail jumping — stemming from the July 2016 fire bombing at a residence on Doty Street.
Officials say four people were inside the home when an explosive device detonated, damaging the residence and leaving one person hospitalized.
Schneider’s co-defendant, Jonas Johnson, was convicted in Feb. 2023 for the fire bombing and a separate domestic incident with his mother. His sentencing is set for May 24.
According to the complaint, Johnson was paid by another person to put a bomb in the residence’s mailbox in retaliation for a drug theft.
We greatly appreciate the years of dedicated investigation by our law enforcement partners to help secure these convictions today. The defendant’s dangerous and violent actions threatened the safety and security of numerous occupants of the home,” said District Attorney Eric J. Toney. “We are grateful injuries were not more serious and look forward to the May 24 sentencing date for the defendant to be held accountable and for justice on behalf of the victims and our community.
Wisconsin’s Division of Criminal Investigation and the City of Fond du Lac Police Department investigated this case with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Agency (ATF).
