PULCIFER, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — With snow totals piling up, people in parts of Shawano County are digging out.
In Pulcifer, Wednesday morning conditions were coupled with people starting the day without power.
Utility lines are down, and the road is blocked. Tree branches litter the ground. The winter storms left their mark in the small Shawano County community of Pulcifer. Dan Eaker and his two boys are stocking up on firewood. He says heavy snow on trees may have caused him to lose power at his home near Gillett.
“Last night the power went off about 7:30. So, this morning, we got up and got the fireplace going. And we’re using it for some heat. And now, we’re getting some logs, in order to ride it out,” said Dan Eaker, Gillett.
Just down the hill, is Oconto River Park.
“We had, I would say close to 8-10 inches. It packed down really good,” said Austin Gueths, Shawano County Parks Department.
Austin Gueths says clearing the way after an April snowstorm is a challenge.
“Yes, it’s very hard to plow, because the ground’s not frozen. So, you got to make sure you’re on cement, or you’re going to get swung in, and you’ll get caught up into it,” he said.
After another pass around the parking lot, Gueths is on his way. Meanwhile, Dan Eaker and his crew continue to fill the bed of the pickup truck with wood.
“That way we sit back, and stay warm, and play some board games instead of tablets, and video games. And do some family time,” he said.
