It was miserable outside but just fine inside American Family Field as the Milwaukee Brewers extended their season opening winning streak to four games by beating the Minnesota Twins 3-2 in their home opener. More than 41, 000 filled the stadium on a rainy and snowy afternoon to see the Crew get off to their best start since 2006. Milwaukee scored the game’s first three runs as rookie Jackson Chourio delivered an RBI single in the second inning. The 20 year old top prospect has hit safely in all four of his big league games. Christian Yelich tagged Twins starter Louie Varland with his second home run of the year in the bottom of the third and Brice Turang continued his hot start with an RBI double to make it 3-0 after 3. Brewers starter Jacob Junis and four relievers held Minnesota to just three hits and one earned run. Minnesota got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 4th finishing Junis’ day. He allowed the run on three hits while striking out 4. Elvis Peguero got the win in relief working the next two innings, allowing an unearned run after an error from catcher William Contreras. The Twins pulled within a run on a second sacrifice fly in the 6th. Hoby Millner, Joel Payamps and Abner Uribe finished off the spotless work out of the bullpen with Uribe earning his third save. The Brewers (4-0) will go for the sweep of the Twins Wednesday afternoon with Joe Ross facing Chris Paddock. Pre-game coverage begins at 11:35 AM with a 12:10 PM first pitch on WNFL.
Brewers broadcasting legend Bob Uecker was given a rousing ovation from the sellout crowd as the game got underway. The 90 year old Baseball Hall of Famer is now in his 54th season of calling Brewers games on the radio.
