MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Preliminary unemployment rates went up last month in nine of Wisconsin’s 12 metro areas — and they held steady in the Milwaukee, La Crosse, and Eau Claire areas.
State workforce development officials stressed that the numbers are not seasonally-adjusted, so it’s not unusual to see jobless rates go up in February — normally the coldest month of the year.
Metro unemployment ranged from 6.6 percent in Racine to 3.8 in Madison.
Joblessness also rose in all but 20 of the state’s 72 counties, and in 20 of the 32 largest cities.
