MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ) — A new athletic facility is coming to fruition at Manitowoc Lutheran High School.
The $9 million project is set to be completed in October. The new facility is 30,000 sq. feet, and will have seating for about 1,100 people in the gym.
It also includes a 15,000 sq. foot gymnasium, full locker rooms, visitor locker rooms, offices for athletic staff, and an updated trainer room that is four times larger than the current trainer room.
The gym can be set up as one main center court or two full sized cross courts. This means when the new facility is used at the same time as the existing gym, 3-5 different teams can hold practice at the same time.
Martin Plocher, capital campaign director for the project, says the updates are beneficial for the whole community.
“Not only are we running our high school here, but we have the grade schools in our federation,” said Plocher. “They do a lot of tournaments here like basketball, wrestling, volleyball, and this facility is going to help us to help them.”
Funding for the project comes from the MLHS Federation, which is made up of 23 WELS congregations along with other advisory congregations.
After this project is complete, there’s already plans for an additional phase to create a 3,000 sq. foot fitness center.
