APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new dining program in Appleton is dishing out culture.
On Tuesday, the Outagamie County Nutrition Program introduced its first Senior Meal Restaurant Program for the Hmong community in Appleton.
The program provides eligible seniors, age 60 years and older, with free meal tickets to May’s Kitchen on Tuesdays in exchange for nutritious, traditional, Hmong cuisine.
The program offers opportunities for socialization, nutrition education and support.
“We’re a resource that’s unlike any other so we wanted to meet a need in the community and offer culturally-competent meals to seniors in the Hmong community. Appleton has a larger population of Hmong residents and so truly just meeting the need and giving them a cultural meal that is balanced and healthy and something they’ll enjoy,” said Outagamie County aging and nutrition program supervisor, Kali Erickson.
For the program’s first week, 30 people registered.
In order to receive vouchers, you can go to May’s Kitchen to register or go to the Aging & Disability Resource Center on S. Walnut street in Appleton.
