FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man suspected to have stabbed a woman in Fond Du Lac Friday.
The suspect, 50-year-old Fermin Teodoro Lopez-Mendoza, was believed to have fled the scene in a maroon-colored 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe.
Officials say investigations led detectives to a residence in Ozaukee County. Working with the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, officers arrested the suspect a short distance from the property around 6:00 p.m. Saturday.
Lopez-Mendoza was turned over to Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s detectives and transported to the Fond du Lac County Jail, charged with first-degree attempted homicide.
Additional charges may follow.
The delay in a release was because the residence the suspect was leaving may be involved in additional criminal activity, for which a search warrant was obtained and served overnight.
Lopez-Mendoza’s vehicle was also located in rural Calumet County and seized as evidence in the criminal investigation.
The victim is still in the hospital, in serious but stable condition.
No further information will be released at this time.
